Without being too dramatic one of the best things happened to me during my last trip to Orlando! On this occasion no, I wasn’t invited to spend the night in Cinderella’s Castle, neither was I offered a lifetimes supply of frozen lemonade from the Cheshire Cafe, it was actually just my barnet staying straight for three whole weeks!
Now I get it, to some people this may not seem a big deal, but when you exit the hotel lobby with pin straight hair and only make it as far as the car before looking like Hair Bear from the Hair Bear Bunch (google it) it does become a problem.
So this year I had decided enough was enough and I was just going to buy a wig and pray it would still be stuck to my head after riding The Rocking Rollercoaster. After driving my mum crazy talking about hair morning noon and night and constantly searching the same websites over and over I still had a hundred questions and no idea what I was looking for, what’s a lace front? Will the wig frizz up? Is this website legit?
In the end I completely scrapped the idea when my mum came across this product called the Professional Gold Premium Keratin Treatment by Cocochoco, honesty I can’t rate this stuff enough, its literally been a life saver. If you have no idea what a keratin treatment is it basically straightens out and smooths your hair, helping it return to its original state before any damage, if you want to know more click here.
How to use
First all you have to do is wash your hair (twice) with a clarifying shampoo, I used one I found on Amazon which was recommended with the Cocochoco treatment. The clarifying shampoo will strip any excess oil or grease from your hair, it will feel like straw afterwards but once the treatment is applied and starts working its magic it will feel super soft and silky. Once you’ve washed the hair you will need to blow-dry it, make sure the hair is completely dry before applying the treatment.
As you can see below this is my hair after it had been washed and dried using the clarifying shampoo, I used a paddle brush when drying it to help tame and straighten out the curls.
Now the hair is completely dry you can begin to section it off and apply the keratin treatment, making sure no product is being directly pasted onto the scalp. To apply mine my mum used a tinting brush.
After the products been applied let it sit for 10 minutes and again blow dry the hair thoroughly. Following that you then take small sections of the hair and begin to seal in the product by straightening each piece 10 times over, this is to trap in the moisture and hydrate the hair which gives it the silky finish. I’d advise doing this step near a window as the fumes from the product are quite strong and make you’re eyes water, I literally sat for a good 2 hours sporting a pair of my brothers Nerf goggles.
Once the hair has been straightened you have to avoid washing it for three days, it is important that it doesn’t get wet and if it does you need to dry it and go back over it with the straighteners. The hair must not dent in any way so you can’t put it up, pin it back or place it behind your ears.
A keratin treatment is not permanent so the length of time it lasts all depends on the hairs aftercare. Cocochoco state on their website that this product can last up until 5 – 6 months, mine seemed to last around 3 which wasn’t a problem since the main goal was to keep it straight during my holiday.
You are recommended to wash your hair with sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, the one I used is quite cheap and I ordered it from amazon here.
The pictures below show my hair after washing the treatment out, this was WITHOUT using my straighteners so compared to the first photos theres a noticeable difference.
Overall I’m extremely pleased with the outcome of this product and would 100% recommend it to anyone who wants more manageable hair or even healthier shiny locks.
